At an upscale Hotel in downtown Chicago, IL we were called in to
replace one of two steam heat exchanger style water heaters. Two
problems:
The replacement heater was now much taller than the original and
would not fit where the old heater stood. Also, the hotel did
not want to shut down the remaining water heater and
inconvenience their guests. As you can see in this photo we
installed the heater in an adjacent room and extended new piping
to the old heater. We made the changeover in two hours during a
low usage period when the second heater could handle the load.
We also made piping and valve provisions to install a second
replacement heater at a future date.

At a large nursing home on Chicago's West Side, the existing
domestic water heating system was a 450 gallon storage tank with
an internal steam tube bundle. The tank was 35 years old and
developing leaks. The owners wanted to convert to a gas water
heating system. This presented several problems:
For venting and gas service, the new heaters had to be located
in a mechanical room 350 feet from the old system, so piping had
to be routed through hallway ceilings and crawlspaces. Down time
was critical, so the heaters were installed, piped, vented and
tested in advance. We then completed a three hour changeover
during a low usage period. The above photo shows the four (4)
new heaters installed in a "box" pattern to conserve space.
